Ancient rocks, witnessing millennia. Timeless moment, sharing the dream. ~~~ Point Lobos, just past Carmel, is one of my favorite places on earth. This precious nature reserve has rightfully been called the crowning jewel of the Monterey Coast, and is a nature lover's paradise. The meeting of land and sea, the unbelievable colors of the water, as well as the abundant wildlife in this unspoiled nature preserve carry an unmistakeable spirit. I'm not alone in my devotion to Point Lobos - painters have made pilgrimages to this sanctuary for centuries, a true California treasure. ~~~ NOTES: "California Dreaming" is inspired by many a blissful paintout at glorious China Cove . There, the color of the water is an unbelievable shade of emerald, more akin to a tropical oasis. Many artists fall in love with a special place, and Point Lobos is that for me, it has captured my heart. I feel priviledged to be able to paint on what I consider sacred ground. When standing at my easle here, I delight in a special kinship with centuries of artists who have frequented Point Lobos. I feel especially connected to and inspired by the Early California Impressionists, such as Guy Rose, William Ritschel and many others, who painted en Plein-Air at Point Lobos in the early 20th century, and passionately loved the place as I do.
